At CCTAL, we are proud to partner with forward-thinking companies like Morgan Construction Wales, who are dedicated to nurturing young talent and bringing fresh perspectives into the construction industry. Through apprenticeships and hands-on training, Morgan Construction Wales is helping to shape the next generation of professionals, ensuring the industry remains innovative for years to come.
Journey into Construction
Dennis Moore, 23, is a prime example of Morgan Construction Wales’ approach to developing young professionals. Inspired by his school experiences and a natural interest in the field, Dennis always knew that construction was the right career for him.
“I’ve always known that I would enjoy working in construction,” he says. Driven by this clear vision, Dennis took the initiative and contacted Morgan Construction Wales directly to inquire about an apprenticeship. After completing his Level 2 Diploma in Construction Operations for Groundworks at COTS Training Ltd, he joined MCW as a groundworker in Saundersfoot.
Day-to-day life as an apprentice
In his role as a groundworker, Dennis plays a crucial part in the success of construction projects. Whether it’s filling blocks and beams for flooring or installing steel cages for footings, his work is essential to the stability and safety of the structures being built.
“Construction is a very important job, especially the groundworks aspect,” Dennis says, acknowledging the critical nature of his responsibilities in ensuring that projects proceed smoothly and safely.
Support and training from Morgan Construction Wales
Morgan Construction Wales has been instrumental in supporting Dennis’ development, providing not only the necessary tools and training but also an environment where his ideas are valued.
“The company is open to ideas, and everyone is encouraged to share them,” Dennis shares. This inclusive approach has empowered him to contribute to key aspects of the projects he works on. For example, Dennis felt a strong sense of ownership when he
worked on tasks like filling blocks for floors or setting up steel cages for footings, where he was able to offer practical solutions and improvements.
Mentorship and growth under Morgan Construction Wales
Morgan Construction Wales fosters a supportive environment where Dennis feels he can grow and learn from those around him. “They’re always there to help,” he says, highlighting the mentorship he’s received from experienced groundworkers who have shown him different aspects of the trade. This hands-on learning has not only developed his skills but has also instilled a strong work ethic and a commitment to always doing his best.
The role of young people in the industry
While construction is constantly evolving and developing with new approaches, Dennis believes that young people are key to driving change and innovation. “Young people are important because they help bring others into the industry,” he says, emphasising how his generation is proving that construction is a reliable, rewarding, and enjoyable career choice.
With MCW’s support, Dennis is tackling the challenges of his trade head-on, building his skills and confidence to contribute to every project he undertakes. For young people entering the construction industry, this shows the value of having a supportive environment that encourages growth and development. Morgan Construction Wales’ approach shows how companies can empower upcoming professionals to build their skills, embrace challenges, and gain the confidence needed for their future construction careers.
Building for the future
“It’s a good career to have, and it’s rewarding,” Dennis advises other young people considering construction. He emphasises the opportunities for growth, learning, and the satisfaction of building for the future, encouraging others to explore the career possibilities the industry offers.
Dennis’s journey highlights how apprenticeships and strong industry partnerships open doors for young professionals to succeed. At CCTAL, we are proud to support and represent companies like Morgan Construction Wales, and their commitment to developing talent, which is shaping the future of the construction industry, one apprentice at a time.
