TRJ wins the Medium Employer of the Year award!

On 22nd March 2024, CCTAL were proud to attend the Apprenticeship Awards Cymru 2024, in support of one of our brilliant members TRJ. The evening was full of celebration and recognised the achievement of individuals, employers, and work-based learning practitioners, across seven categories – one of which is the Medium Employer of the year.

A highly successful construction business based in Ammanford, TRJ was founded by former apprentice T. Richard Jones in 1935, where the company continues to thrive 89 years later. With an apprenticeship success story at its roots, TRJ proudly sustains its tradition of supporting apprenticeships, ensuring a steady influx of construction talent into Southwest Wales.

Employing a workforce of 160, including 16 apprentices, TRJ also engages approximately 100 local subcontractors. Over the past five years, the company has welcomed 43 apprentices, actively supporting both shared apprenticeships and traditional apprenticeship programmes facilitated by Cyfle Building Skills and us, here at CCTAL.

Through TRJ’s continued dedication in championing apprenticeships, nine former apprentices have ascended to management or supervisory positions within the company, which is a testament to the opportunities they offer to the future generation.

Lynette Daniels, our training manager, said:

“Attending the Apprenticeship Awards Cymru was an honour, especially as we stood in support of our esteemed member, TRJ. The evening was a testament to dedication and success of those who continue to support apprenticeships.

“It is a pleasure to work with a fantastic company such as TRJ – who equally share our passion for offering both traditional and shared apprenticeships to help the future generation thrive in the construction industry.”
