Women in Construction Week: Our Training Manager, Lynette
This Women in Construction Week, we’re proud to celebrate the women shaping the construction sector – including our Training Manager, Lynette, who also manages the Shared Apprenticeship Scheme in Carmarthenshire. Her career journey is a powerful example of how women can progress from apprenticeships into leadership roles, supporting both projects and people across the industry.
Lynette’s career in construction began in 2005 when she joined the Construction Department at Coleg Sir Gâr as an administrative apprentice. After progressing to an admin assistant role, she later joined us at CCTAL in 2008 in the same capacity, continuing to build her knowledge of the sector and its training landscape. Over time, Lynette progressed into a coordinator position and is now Training Manager, where she oversees training delivery, supports apprentices, and works closely with employers across the region.
Alongside this role, Lynette became involved with Cyfle Building Skills in 2013, following the regional expansion of the Shared Apprenticeship Scheme, helping to extend opportunities for young people across Carmarthenshire.
Lynette’s journey highlights the wide range of roles women can take within construction. From starting on-site as an apprentice to moving into operational, training, or leadership roles, the construction sector provides clear pathways for skill development and professional growth.
Women in Construction Week is an opportunity to recognise the vital contribution women make at every level of the industry. Women are stepping into essential roles – from trades and apprenticeships to training, project management, and operational leadership. Their expertise ensures projects meet safety and quality standards, supports efficient delivery, and introduces new ways of working that benefit the sector as a whole.
At CCTAL, celebrating role models like our Training Manager, Lynette, shows what is possible. Her career demonstrates that construction is not only accessible to women but also full of opportunities for progression, leadership, and long-term success. By sharing these journeys, we hope to inspire the next generation to see construction as a place where they can build not just projects, but skills, confidence, and careers that last.
